Signs of Growth in the Minnesota Manufacturing Industry

According to a survey released November 1st by the Institute of Supply Management (ISM), there are signs of growth in the local manufacturing industry.  The Star Tribune reported that while there are still concerns, one survey says that Minnesota manufacturers will still add jobs!

The ISM says its manufacturing index in Minnesota dropped to 50.8, down from 51.6 in September. However, any reading above 50 does indicate expansion. Survey respondents said raw materials prices fell sharply, and its new orders index increased 2.8 percentage points from September to 52.4 percent during October, a welcome sign of growth after three months of contraction.

It may seem that good news in the local manufacturing industry is hard to find during these difficult times, but at Premier Consulting & Sales we are committed to maintaining a positive attitude and helping our clients see the light at the end of the tunnel.  The Minnesota Business Conditions Index, a regional index by Prof. Ernie Goss at Creighton University, said that Minnesota’s business index fell slightly from 56.3 in August to 55.3 in September however “I expect manufacturing job growth [in Minnesota] to be positive but weak in the months ahead,” Goss said.

Twin Cities Housing Activity Remains Stable Through Summer

Summer is always an interesting time for housing news as many potential home buyers in Minnesota are  said to be “up north”  and not buying homes, however permit reports through July have remained stable.  Even despite the Government shutdown during most of July, builders continued to pull housing permits which bodes well for the both the building materials and manufacturing industries. July 2011 residential construction permit activity almost mirrored June’s figures, and ran almost 40 percent higher in planned units than July of 2010 … a good indication that the local economy is making a slow, but steady come back.  According to statistics compiled by the Keystone Report for the Builders Association of the Twin Cities, there were 257 permits for a total of 370 units during four weeks in the month of July, 2011.
